Sisters in Solitude
Canmore, Alberta
A morning sunrise created this serene reflection of the Three Sisters. It was late winter in the Canmore area and all the elements lined up perfectly for a rare landscape image. After the floods of 2013, the pond that was so important in this image was gone; to my disappointment, debris from the flood had erased it. In some ways, this is a historical shot. I returned to this location about eight months later and was pleasantly surprised to discover that beaver activity had created a new pond. The new pond is perhaps not as big as it used to be, but it is there! "Sisters in Solitude" was a spiritual morning with these peaks that are synonymous with Canmore, Alberta. Early explorers thought the mountains resembled nuns' habits, and thus the name, Three Sisters. Individually, they are named Faith, Charity and Hope.
