Kootenay National Park, Alberta
A forest fire had gone through this part of Kootenay National Park some years previously. Fireweed is one of the first plants to repopulate a burned area, literally appearing six to eight weeks after a fire. It is a colonizer, and it will appear where there is exposed ground in transition. For this image, I used a camera on a tripod with a longer exposure and panned vertically. This creates the abstract effect, which I like to achieve when I encounter the right subject matter. I entitled this image “Reawakening”, because that is just what the land was doing.
