Mother’s Love
Churchill, Manitoba
This mother polar bear had triplets: the cub you see, another nursing on one side and the third on her other side, hidden from view. The family of four was making their way from the den site towards ocean hunting ground when we spotted her from a snow track vehicle. Every kilometer or two the cubs needed to stop to rest and nurse; I was able to capture some of these very tender moments. The mother would have gone up to eight months without food at this point, so it’s important not to create any stress for her!
