Banff National Park, Alberta

In the fall, grizzly bears are lethargic as they wait for the first big snowfall before going into their den.  A large snowstorm is a signal to head for hibernation.  The snow covers the entrance, which prevents them from being at risk from a predator harming them in their den.  Bear 122 (perhaps better known in the Banff area as "The Boss" , as he weighs over 800lbs and is a dominant male bear) was on his way after a record snowfall of 41cm in the area.
