Got Your Back

Emma/Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan

A year after I raised Squirt, I was contacted by a lady in Southern Saskatchewan who asked me to help out another orphaned raccoon. Upon receiving Spuz Echo, I took her into the University of Saskatchewan vet clinic for an immediate check up. During her time at the clinic, Spuz made two new raccoon friends who were later named Sloppy and Mangler. I raised all three raccoons in my home and released them into the wild the following spring. I still leave food in my back shed in case they get hungry; like Squirt, they do come back to visit occasionally. “Got Your Back” is a picture of Sloppy peering over Spuz Echo’s back. The raccoons were between three and four months old in this photograph.
