Catch of the Morning
Catch of the Morning
Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan
While on the northern shore of Waskesiu Lake I spotted this osprey. It was nervously perched with a small fish in its talons. Ospreys have keen eyesight and it was obviously aware that I was watching it. It is not uncommon for eagles to try and steal an osprey's catch and perhaps this individual was concerned that I was about to give chase. These large raptors are incredibly skilled at fishing and can spot their prey from up to forty feet above the water. From there they hover momentarily before plunging feet-first into the water to capture their prey. The osprey didn't want to cha chance losing its meal and flew off shortly after I captured this image.
