Catch of the Day
Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan
Fun little otters. Always playful! In my 25 years as a photographer, I had never gotten this close without them spotting me. Although inquisitive, they are very shy of humans. On this particular day, though, they were preoccupied with feasting on several different fish species. They could down an entire fish in less than a minute! Perfectly adapted to catch prey in the water, they can stay submerged for up to eight minutes. I waited for the right moment: An otter came up with a perch. One of his family hoped to benefit from the catch, but this otter was not sharing.
