Bear-ave and Blooming
Bear-ave and Blooming
Prince Albert National Park, SK
This was a fun moment with a very ‘bear-ave’ cinnamon-coloured black bear cub. Mom was nearby, feeding on lush spring grasses, while this little guy climbed higher on a blooming aspen tree to observe me and my lens. Black bear cubs grow quickly in their first year, relying primarily on mother’s nourishment while they slowly learn to feed on grasses and other foods. Their ability to climb is critical to their safety from predators. Climbing and play behaviour also helps their muscles grow. Just a couple of years after his birth, this cub will be on his own.
