Kit and Caboodle
Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan
I photographed these two red fox kits in Prince Albert National Park. The fellow on the right is known as a cross-phase colour, as he is a little darker. When he grows up, he will be quite silver in appearance. This is an adaptation to living in the forest. Their survival may be a little better, which in turn ensures that these genes continue. They blend into the forest where they are hunting, which might make them more successful. These two were curious about the photographer and were just plum cute and adorable. Unfortunately, the mosquitos were crazy about them, too. In the lower left corner of this image you can actually see a perfectly focused mosquito, frozen in time. I enjoyed spending about an hour with these little charmers.
