Morning Breath
Banff National Park, Alberta
This raven was singing on an old gnarled snag. I was curious about the raven because they often signal that there are wolves in the area. I was occasionally watching the raven but glassing to see what else might be in the neighbourhood. It took a while for me to realize the humidity caused the raven's breath to be visible. I thought that would make an interesting shot and quickly got out my gear. He called out and looked a little nervous, perhaps because of my fidgeting with the equipment. I got the shot just before he flew away. I felt lucky to have been just in time, demonstrating once again that no matter what image you are trying to capture, you just never know what is out there. What might just be an average scene to the human eye may reveal something else with a telephoto lens.
