Kickin’ It With Mom
Nunavut
Mother bear was enjoying a snooze while her cubs continued to be pint-size photography stars. It was a beautiful afternoon on the Arctic Ocean ice, and mom had been a successful hunter. She shared her success with a nursing break for her cubs and shortly thereafter fell into a deep slumber in the sun. Her cubs, with their energy still high, just couldn’t settle – perhaps in the wonderment of the other species they had met for probably the first time. Their worldly experiences were just beginning, and their future relied on their mom. The maternal instinct of female polar bears is strong; the family might stay together for up to three-and-half years!
