I’m So Moose Understood
Kananaskis Country, Alberta
Moose seem so odd-looking, and this is an especially comical image of one. They are sometimes called swamp-donkeys, perhaps because of their long faces. Their sense of smell is incredible. Their hearing is very good, but their eyesight isn't the best. Living in the forest doesn't necessarily require the greatest vision. I was in the safety of the trees, as I have had to climb up one on occasion because of an aggressive moose, especially in rutting season. This bull was becoming curious about the photographer. At one point he almost got inside my minimum focusing distance, which is the distance at which you can no longer focus the lens. The unique image suggests that maybe they are 'moose' understood creatures.
