Stellar Staller

The Steller's Jay is part of the corvid family along with ravens, crows, jays, magpies, nutcrackers and a hundred or so others. They are an extremely intelligent family of birds and also tend to be quite opportunistic. This individual was foraging near a picnic area, watching for food to be dropped by tourists. He would fly off and cache the food he collected before quickly returning for more. He came quite close to me at one point as I ate obviously looking for a handout! They are a beautiful bird and the blue of their feathers can be almost iridescent. After posing for a photograph, he moved on to try his luck with someone else.
