While out for a drive near my home, I saw this fawn and its mother cross the road. I stopped to watch them as they bounded off into an open field. A few moments later I no longer saw the fawn. It is common for a doe to leave her fawn hiding in a safe place when alarmed. The fawn will not move from its hiding spit until its mother returns. The doe may have sensed me watching, as she circled in several different directions before leaving, obviously truing to keep all attention on her. Once she had cleared the area I snuck carefully and quickly to the spot where I had last seen the fawn. It wasn’t long before I found it, curled into a little ball. I stayed just long enough to capture this image before retreating to my vehicle. I was concerned for the fawn’s safety and from a distant hill watched for predators through my binoculars until the mother returned. I didn’t have to wait long; within a few minutes the doe collected her baby and they headed off again together.
