Heading for Cover

Bull moose have usually been my arch nemesis, on a few occasions I have had to climb trees to escape an immenent bull rushing towards me. During the rut bull moose are to be respected and observed from a safe distance. I had scouted and watched this bull moose in Kananaskis country for over a month. The conditions on this day were awesome for the image in my head I was hoping to capture. I photographed this bull in the first snow fall of the year, his rutting grunt could be heard admist the snow flakes hitting my face. A challenger could be heard in the distance “ewaaa-ewaaa” and was approaching. I had scouted the area and was positive this was the biggest bull in the area. However, as the

challenger approached this bull became more weary and nervous, it decided to “Head for Cover”! I awaited to see what I thought would obviously be an even bigger moose. A small spike bull emerged from the snowfall!!!!
