After three full weeks in the field with no luck, my guide and I finally happened upon a cougar. The cougar is such a secretive animal that it probablt shouldn’t be a surprise to me that this is my first cougar sighting in all my years of being in the field. There are people who spend their whole lives in cougar territory and never catch a glimps of one of these powerful cats. When we first spotted this cougar it was lying in the sun on a ridge. We were secure in our vehicle as we slowly approached. It didn’t move right away and I was able to capture some shots of it as it lay on the ridge. A few minutes later it got up and began to walk powerfully down the ridge. It passed at a cautious distance from the vehicle but my camera equipment was able to easily bridge the space between us. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect cougar encounter!
