Baby Steps

Nunavut

After sixteen hours in the field, my guide decided we should check one more time for more polar bears on the arctic landscape. We went to a vantage point on the island where we saw a mother bear with her cub. I was completely exhausted, but we decided to head out and join her because she was being tracked by a male bear.  We were hoping our presence would act as a barrier to any mishaps for the cub. I captured this image of her little cub getting up and taking what looked like his first baby steps.
