One of the most incredible wolf experiences that I’ve been fortunate enough to have came barely a day into a month-long Arctic adventure. On this particular day I heard a distant howl and, being able to see for several kilometres, spotted a pack of seventeen wolves on the horizon. As we got into position, the wolves circled down-wind of us and proceeded to approach to barely fifteen yards away. They caught our scent in the air, sniffed a bit, and then trotted off. This image is of the alpha female who was striking, not only in her appearance but also in her obvious ability to lead her pack.
