Sunrise for your Spirit
Canadian Rocky Mountains, Alberta
As the inspiration of the previous night became a memory, the inspiration of the dawn began. The valley that you see in this image is known as the Valley of the Gods. Spirit Island is important to the Stoney Nakoda First Nations, who believe mountains are physical representations of their ancestors. Spirit Island is surrounded on three sides by the same mountain range, which makes this place very rare and thus particularly significant to the Stoney. People from around the world visit via Jasper’s daily boat tours, making the island one of the world’s most iconic images. Images of Spirit Island have been featured often, such as by Kodak back in the 1960s, and when Apple launched its 2014 iPad.
