Mountain Gem
Banff National Park, Alberta
This bear and its sibling briefly feed on the succulent dandelions on the top of this knoll. From a distance of over 100 meters I captured the gentle and cautious demeanour of this rare-coloured grizzly bear. White grizzlies are almost unheard of. As far as anyone knows it is the first white grizzly to ever exist in the Canadian Mountain Parks! Nakoda, meaning “friend” or “ally,” in the language of the Stoney Nakoda, the First Nations people who were removed from the park after its creation! I captured this image on only the second sighting of Nakoda by myself.
