Dandelion Delight
Banff National Park, Alberta
This is Bear 64, a beautiful female grizzly, with one of the three cubs she'd had that year. They were in a dandelion patch feeding on the succulent nutritious plants; thus the title, "Dandelion Delight". This little cub was staying extra close to mom and seemed to mimic its mother as they were feeding. Bear 64 was very famous in the Banff area. Park officials thought she had passed away the previous fall, as her radio collar had turned off. However, she turned up the next spring with three cubs! I followed this bear family for a number of years. She took these cubs safely into adulthood and then passed away in 2013 or 2014 at the ripe old age of about 24 years. She was quite old for a grizzly in the wild. You can barely see the remnants of her radio collar.
