Following the Leader
Prince Albert National Park, Saskatchewan
On a frozen lake in northern Saskatchewan, I had scouted a pack of nine wolves. I was with this pack for four days, wading through wet slush on the frozen lake most days. They had a kill deep in the trees and would travel onto the frozen lake for a break and a sleep each day. I waited for them on the trail they had used to travel between the kill and the lake, only to discover they did not use the same trail this morning. Wolves are shy creatures and their shyness on this morning was traded for an amazing scene of a beautiful snowfall and blue light.
