Nakoda

Banff National Park, Alberta

White grizzlies are almost unheard of. As far as anyone knows it is the first white grizzly to ever exist in the Canadian Mountain Parks! Nakoda, meaning “friend” or “ally,” in the language of the Stoney Nakoda, the First Nations people who were removed from the park after its creation! This image was captured during a very brief glimpse of this rare bear. Thirty seconds later Nakoda was gone and a secret in the mountains once again.
